Sublimation Printing

Sublimation printing, also known as dye sublimation printing, is a specialized printing method that is used to transfer images onto a substrate, usually a polyester cloth material, metal or coated ceramics, by using three ingredients – sublimation ink, heat and pressure. The unique feature of sublimation ink lies in its ability to convert solid to gas without being in a liquid form. The conversion is brought into effect through heat and is controlled with pressure and time. Solid items including fiber board, ceramic, metals, etc. require special coating to accept the sublimation inks.

This sublimation process has been an outstanding revelation in graphic designing industry. With the advent of state-of-the-art digital printers, display industry has also embraced this technology which has taken its popularity to a different level altogether.

At Presto, we have equipped sublimation printing technology and use the following machines for creating personalized gifts:

Machines

Flat Heat Press Machines

A flat heat press machine is used to bond designs onto everything that can withstand heat (upto 3750 Celsius) and has flat and smooth surface. Some of its key features include:
  • Digital time and temperature reading
  • Even heat across the platen
  • Smooth shock-free opening
  • Teflon-coated platen
  • Over center pressure adjustment
  • Light weight and portable
  • UL/ULC/CE approved

Specifications:

 FLAT HEAT PRESS - A3
  • Working Area : 20" X 15"
  • Overall Height : 22"
  • Overall Length : 24"
  • Overall Width : 20"
  • Weight : 57kg
  • Volts : 220 V
  FLAT HEAT PRESS - A4
  • Working Area : 15" X 15"
  • Overall Height : 21"
  • Overall Length : 24"
  • Overall Width : 15"

Mug Press

Mug Press is an electric machine that helps print images onto the ceramic coffee mugs. A cylindrical press holds the ceramic mug in place and the press applies high and even heat to the mug's surface. Some of its key features include:
  • Fully digital temperature and time controller
  • Flawless top to bottom heating element
  • Constant wrap with optimal capacity
  • Adjustable knob to fit in different mug size
  • Auto reset timer and LCD readout
  • Secure tabletop design
  • Programmable presets

Other accessories

Some of the other necessary variety of accessories required in sublimation printing technology includes:

EPSON E-1390 Printer

EPSON E-1390 Printer has all the properties of R-230 and is a A3 size printer. This printer is a must for those who are looking for both A3 and A4
print outs.

EPSON R-230 Printer

EPSON R-230 Printer is a very powerful and compact printer that delivers astounding photo print quality.

Sublimation Ink

Sublimation ink is required to print bright graphics and images on various printing surfaces like porcelain, polyester, ceramics, textiles, plastics, glass and metals among others.

Continuous Ink Supply System (CISS)

CISS helps bypassing the original cartridges resulting in huge savings in ink costs.

High Temperature Tape

For sublimation printing, heat-resistant tape is required to seal the transfer paper to the object being pressed. These tapes are apt for hard as well as soft surfaces and are suited for embossing graphics on mugs, t-shirts, key rings, tiles etc. This tape is available in various colors and sizes.

The Process of Sublimation Printing

Step 1: Create artwork using any graphics software like photoshop etc
Step 2: Take a printout on sublimation paper using sublimation ink
Step 3: Align the printout with the substrate and process it in the flat press/mug press at the given parameters of pressure and time.
